Today is my Mom & Dad’s 30-something wedding anniversary! I know bias could be speaking here, but I probably have the best parents in the world. What an example they are to me and my siblings! And after all these years together they not only love each other, but they like each other! (well most days, comeon’ they’re still a married couple. ) In all seriousness though, they are the most giving and wonderful people I’ve ever known. They were just kids when they got married, they put each other though college, they lived in the desert… in a tent! hello!, they’ve raised 3 kids that all have turned out fairly unscathed (If you’ve met any of the Marler children you understand that while we are well adjusted, we’re not exactly normal. And I wouldn’t have it any other way), and what they have, they give to others and their children. They laugh a lot. They’re goofy a lot. And they understand eachother.
This is how a marriage should be. And its not like the last 35+ years were all easy. At times it was hard, believe me, I was with them for 20+ years and saw what they went through. But very rarely did they ever stop laughing, and they’ve always put Christ first. Mom & Dad I don’t tell you enough how wonderful you are and how much I love you! Happy Anniversary!!
Here are their pictures I’ve taken the last 3 years. Unfortunately I couldn’t get my hands on a wedding picture, but I pulled one of them from their hippy days!

P.S. For those that might think I’m a bit of an idiot, I meant to say University.

I think I’m a pretty good Aunt. I really like being an Aunt. But this morning I got up, went to check my Facebook, and saw an update from my sister saying that her baby turns 1 today. I was so taken back that I thought for a second that she’s crazy and she must be wrong. I could have SWORN his birthday was July 29th. How could I have forgotten? I’ve been eaten up with guilt all day because of it. Okay, not eaten up, but there was a little guilt. I mean, good aunts don’t forget birthdays, right?! And good aunts also don’t go an ENTIRE YEAR without ever posting a picture of her precious nephew! We’ve done pictures… newborn, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months… they’ve just never been posted. So I thought we’d start at the beginning.
1 year ago today I was ready at a moment’s notice to go to the hospital. About in the middle of the afternoon I got the call: She’s progressing quickly and I better get to the hospital if I want to document this thing. So I run up to the hospital… only to have Calista’s (yes, that’s her name, Calista) labor come to a screeching halt. So we waited… and we waited… apparently that’s the thing with labor, it tends to take awhile. This was my first time to ever be in a room for a labor. Despite the fact that my sis has 2 other boys, this was my first time to be in the action. I spent the entire afternoon playing games on my phone and reassuring Calista and Chris that if they wanted to kick me out at any point they could. Thankfully they didn’t.

Finally, later in the evening Calista was getting pretty obviously uncomfortable… The nurse came in and let us know that it was time, like, now. The second Calistaheard the tiniest cry she transformed from pain and pushing to a mother completely in love with her son. She was talking to him before he was even in her arms. At that moment Calista was the most beautiful and graceful I’d ever seen her.

Witnessing a birth was one of the greatest experiences of my whole life. Wesley is the sweetest and cutest baby you’ve ever seen, and I’m not biased one tiny bit. So Happy Birthday to the youngest of my nephews.

8 weddings in 1 month. What was I thinking?! When I first realized I had booked that many weddings in a month I was overwhelmed to say the least. I thought I would be sweating to death, dealing with grumpy people, and be burned out by the last 2 weddings. And then something amazing happened… the weather was incredible, and I had some of the best couples I’ve had in the history of my business. And burned out? Not even a little bit! I finished the last one tonight and I honestly am a little teary and emotional about my couples and their weddings.
I say it a thousand times but I love my couples. I do. To get to spend and document one of the happiest days you’ll ever experience is an honor. I cry at almost all of your weddings because you’re not just regular old clients, you become my friends. April and I take our job very seriously (probably too seriously some days), but its because I want you to look at your wedding pictures and be blown away. I want to capture every moment, every detail, and capture you looking the most gorgeous you’ll ever look.
So thank you to all my clients for letting me into your lives!! And please pretty please let’s go get a drink and catch up down the road when I’m missing all your phone calls and text messages!

And because I can’t post without at least some sort of media I’ll post this song… its been stuck in my head since last nights wedding and I think its probably appropriate to this post.
